My Experience in Burger King

Hi~ I am Ian Youn.

I used to be in Burger King Korea for 7.2 years and experienced product manager and brand manager at marketing team as below. Now, I am between jobs and I am looking forward to working soon in good vision company. One of main reason was the R&R transfer which I could not still understand after 5 months experience in HR team.

Experience

Product Manager, Burger King Korea: Seoul, Korea, 2006 Jul -2010 Dec

Overall management of new product development (NPD) from concept creation to launching and feedback. Aligned to NPD, also in charge of whole research process. Additionally, responsible for new supplier search and approval for NPD supporting.

1. Product Portfolio Enhancement

– Entry products development resulted in the major background of double digit sales and ticket growth achievement for two years since 2007.

– Core product reinforcement and extension to strength brand asset and loyalty every year.

– Premium coffee launching experience resulted in double digit sales increase in drink portfolio.

– Chicken sandwich development experience to extend Burger King Users to female, resulted in 6:4 to 5:5 in demography.

2. Overall Research Conduction

– Designing and conveying whole research process such as U&A Study, Product’s concept and taste test.

– Extract and analyze the insight and set long and short term strategy.

– Increase the success rate of whole work such as product tests, ad tests.

3. Process Development and Enhancement

– New product development process development to easily communicate with stakeholders such as overseas team in Burger King, local QA, SCM, etc.

– New supplier approval process development to reduce timeline of the registration of them.

– Enhancement the tracking quality of the promotion to analyze the impact in many points of view.

4. Animated Communication Arbiter

– leading all stakeholders such as oversea Burger King, operation team, SCM, QA,Training, maintenance, and finance team to work for NPD.

Brand Manager, Burger King Korea: Seoul, Korea, 2010 Apr – 2013 Apr

Total management of Burger King’s annual marketing strategy and promotion for short and long term to enhance sales and Top of Mind (TOM).

1. Strategy Management of branding and promotions

– Creating and developing of brand positioning to enlarge market share and penetrate into customers’ TOM.

– Analyzing weekly and monthly sales including EBIT by breaking down into each restaurant level.

– Setting not only long term and short term strategy but also a contingency plan for immediate sales growth.

– Tuning with stakeholders for setting agenda.

2. Marketing planning and conducting

– Annual ATL and BTL strategy planning in short term and long term based on the contraction of research insight.

– Continuous promotion developments and actions resulted in continuous single digit sales and ticket growth achievement.

– As performing, TOM was increased approximately 6%P at the end of 2012.

3. Aggressive new channel discovery

– the first Kakao Plus Friends launching in Oct, 2010, more than one million friends hold in the first month.

– The first facebook fan page open in fast food, currently having more than 160,000 fans, recorded more than 220,000 facebook users talking about Burger King despite of 110,000 fans of Burger King in 2012.

– The first twitter opening in fast food.

4. Fun & Creative event execution

– Planed WHOPPER JR. at 1,500 only one day in Feb 29, resulted in the third rank in Naver’s search ranking and record breaking sales in the history of Burger King.

– BK Club party open in a Burger King restaurant in only one day for ladies by remodeling, aligned PR strategy for increasing female users.

– Webtoon planned to advertise new chicken sandwich to extend user portfolio.

– Unique co-branding with coke by promoting Bulgogi Burger at 500 if you buy any cokes

5. Ongoing research job and communicator

– Succeeded overall research roll to find key insight for marketing strategy plan.

– Extended from stakeholders belonged to NPD to whole marketing agencies such as advertisement company, PR, design company, any OOH companies to come up with marketing strategies.
